Attend Approved Training Workshop:
Only those candidates who have successfully completed the approved IY Coach training qualify to submit a certification application. Approved training consists of a 1- or 2-day workshop offered by a certified mentor or trainer of group leaders. *Trainees must have attended the Basic Parent Group Leader training first, and ideally have some experience running groups.
Experience Requirements:
Conduct a minimum of a complete series of home visits with two families, utilizing the complete Basic video series. If the full program is delivered entirely in the homes, each series last a minimum of: 13 weeks for Toddler, 14 weeks for Preschool, or 12 weeks for School Age. Dates of coaching sessions should be included on checklists.
Submit to the Certification Committee Workshop Session Checklists for all home sessions with 2 families. See the Parent Program Resources section for checklists.
Submit to the Certification Committee weekly evaluations by each parent who participates in each of the home coaching sessions for two different families.
Submit to the Certification Committee final program evaluations (Parent Satisfaction Questionnaire) by each parent who participates in the home coaching sessions.
*If you are already a certified Basic parent group leader, and if you are doing home visits in addition to the groups, you may attain certification in Home Coaching by submitting checklists for the four visits for each of the topic areas, for two families.
Self-Evaluations:
Submit 2 Self-evaluations (one for each family coached) using the form below.
Parent Home Coach Self EvaluationFeedback from Certified Mentor or Trainer:
Telephone consultation from Certified/Accredited Mentor or Trainer. Telephone consultation may be requested by IY home coaches and is provided by a Mentor or Trainer. Consultation calls are contracted through IY office.
Consultation workshops led by Certified/Accredited Mentor or Trainer. These workshops consist of 6-8 pairs of group leaders who present videos of their home coaching sessions for peer review and feedback from IY Mentor or Trainer. Agencies may request these consultation workshops at their site or send home coaches to regularly held workshops in Seattle.
Video review of home coaching sessions by IY Certified/Accredited Mentor or Trainer. After submitting a recording of a home coaching session, the home coach will receive a detailed written report of their performance. The report will provide specific feedback for the coach. Two complete video reviews are included in the certification fee. For each additional video review a fee is required due to the time intensive process of the review and preparation of the written report. Most home coaches submit at least two video submissions (at different times, from different topics or families) before obtaining final approval.
The video should be labeled, identifying the program and submitted with the group leader’s self-evaluation checklist and must meet minimal requirements for following session protocols. These protocols are outlined in the PDF below.

Tips For Video Review Live Over ZoomMaintaining Fidelity after Accreditation/Certification
In order to assure that accredited group leaders continue to deliver the program with fidelity, we highly recommend the following:
-Accredited group leaders should lead at least one group every 18 months
-Accredited group leaders should participate in a fidelity check every 18 months: this could be a coaching session with an accredited Peer Coach, a video review of a group by a Mentor or Trainer from the Incredible Years office, an in-person consultation day, or Skype consultation calls with a certified Mentor.
Even expert group leaders benefit from on-going feedback and discussions about their work. Without fidelity checks, it is easy for group leaders to drift from the original model. Fidelity checks are also a chance for group leaders to hear about new materials or innovations to the programs.
