Abstract
Carolyn Webster-Stratton presents a series of studies designed to prevent and treat early onset oppositional and conduct disorders. This program is based on an interactive intervention program for families of young children. The treatment, which uses a videotape modeling method, consists of family training intervention, academic skills-training for parents, and training in problem solving and social skills for children. Webster-Stratton has followed children up to 3 years after treatment and is now assessing them at a 10- to 15-year follow-up. The posttreatment assessments indicate that this intervention is effective in significantly improving parental attitudes and parent-child interactions. Highlighting future directions, the author proposes that research should focus on the specific characteristics of the family and children using various combinations of treatment.
